The Dunlap Eagles have surprisingly done very well this year as they keep an excellent record of 6 wins, 1 loss, and 0 ties. Before the season started, critics were saying they would be happy if they even won 5 games. The eagles sure proved them wrong and they hope to get a better record than last year, which was 7 wins and 3 losses. The last two teams Dunlap will play are supposed to be tough but I believe they can pull it off.
This past Friday, Dunlap was victorious over the Limestone Rockets by a score of 38-26. The Rockets have had a rough season with a record of 2 wins and 5 losses. Though the Eagles won, I think they could have beat them by a lot more considering Dunlap is the much better team.
Overview of the Game
The game started very well for Dunlap as they kept gaining more yards with their passing plays. Dunlap Senior, Jackson Chatterton, was having a spectacular game throwing perfect passes to his teammates. In the first quarter on fourth down, Chatterton threw a 33 yard pass to Gabe Calhoun making the score 7-0. Limestone responded well to this and scored three touchdowns to end the first quarter. Chatterton later throws a 63 yard pass to Cole Wright who celebrates in the end zone to make the score 17-21.
The game then goes back and forth of both teams getting close to the end zone but fighting each other off. After some time, Dunlap scored a 36 yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter by running back, Mitchell Gore. And to finish the game, Dunlap gets an easy 3 yard touchdown run.
It was a very well played game but Limestone seemed to finish with more yards than Dunlap. Limestone completed 318 passing yards and 36 running yards to get a total of 354. Dunlap got 266 passing yards and 85 running yards to end with 351.
Players of the Game:
Mitchell Gore (Jr.)
A transfer from Brimfield, Mitchell Gore had an outstanding game against the Rockets. He ran a total of 53 yards with two touchdowns, the most touchdowns he has had in a game all year. Gore played varsity football his sophomore year so the competition is not new to him. He plans on having another game like this and helping his team in the playoffs.
Jackson Chatterton (Sr.)
As always, Jackson Chatterton put on quite the show. Chatterton had many unusual plays this game but it seemed like he always figured it out in the end. He threw a total of 23 passes and completed 19 of them. He also ran the ball 17 yards. Chatterton has played very well this season and will continue to catch everyone's eye when he is on the field.
The Eagles will now prepare for their game this Friday against Canton at home. The Little Giants currently have a record of 4 wins and 3 losses. I believe after their game against Dunlap, it will be an even 4-4 record. The Eagles will come out strong this weekend and so should the students of Dunlap to support our peers and win a fantastic football game!
