Dunlap played a very well game this past weekend against Metamora Redbirds. Some might have thought it was pretty boring due to the lack of points throughout the first half. I think the Eagles were just getting started. Metamora has always been one of Dunlap's tougher teams to beat over the past few years but they seemed to bring it together this year and beat them 10-7.
The game started very slow with no points throughout the whole first half. Dunlap fought hard keeping Metamora out of the end zone. Metamora had a stronger running game but Dunlap has shown better skills with passing the ball in the last few games. In the third half, the Redbirds took the lead scoring a touchdown and the extra kick making the score 7-0. The Eagles bounced right back and scored an amazing 22 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Senior, Jackson Chatterton, runs to his right and sees Casey Erickson in the end zone. The pass is completed and so is the extra kick making it a tie game. In the last few seconds, Matthew Mcquellon kicks a 17 yard field goal for Dunlap to win the game. Dunlap now has a great record of 5 wins and 1 loss.
Stats of the Game:
Dunlap led the game with a total of 264 yards while Metamora had 191. Dunlap also led the game in passing yards. They came to a total of 155 passing yards and 109 rushing yards whereas Metamora had 34 passing yards but 157 rushing. Hopefully, next time Metamora can throw and catch the ball but I don't see that happening against Dunlap's outstanding defense.
Plays to Hear About:
Casey Erickson came firing out of the gate in the first half with an amazing interception. Metamora was at the 43 yard line getting ready to do a sweep pass across the middle. With Casey's strong defense, he rushes to the ball and dives to intercept the pass.
In the seconds before halftime, Ryan Schuck makes an aggressive hustle play. Metamora has the ball around the 47 yard line to throw a pass play but Schuck sneaks through their defense and sacks the quarterback. Schuck is only a sophomore so this is big for him as he pursues his career on the varsity football team.
Player Evaluation:
Casey Erickson (Sr.)
Once again, Erickson has come to play. He has given a great amount of points in each game and has been a thoughtful leader for the Dunlap Eagles. With 8 catches, he gained a total of 80 yards. In those 80 yards, he scored Dunlap's one and only touchdown. He also had an excellent defensive game. Erickson had 4 tackles and one interception. After the game, Casey says:
"Our defense came to play and saved us the whole game"
Jackson Chatterton (Sr.)
For his first time playing varsity as a quarterback, Chatterton is doing an amazing job. He has a great arm and finds it more fun to throw deep passes for longer touchdowns. Against Metamora, he had 19 total passes and completed 10 of them with a total of 155 passing yards. Although he is a quarterback, he loves to get out of the slot and run the ball. Chatterton accomplished 25 running yards. Head coach, Brett Cazalet, talks about Jackson in an interview saying:
"He's got all the tools you'd want in a quarterback. He's a very fast kid and very elusive"
Very well written article Jake! As being one of the players in the game, even I found it boring up until the second half. Luckily we didn't let the fans down and came out victorious. Thanks for the little shout out towards the end of the article. Great article and I am excited to read the next one!
I was at the game and I felt as though this told the story of the game very well. This would be a very helpful resource for someone who did not go to the game so they could find out what happened. You gave lots of details and it was a really good blog!
I went to the game, and you described it very well! The statistics are very helpful and I think you summed up the game very well. I like how you had links to the interview and stats. What game will your next post be about? I like this post and I think it was very useful if you didn't go to the game.
I was unable to come to the game, but from the way your describing it the game seemed pretty intense. I have to agree that our football team has been doing an amazing job lately.
